The 1st centenary of Técnico, in 2011, marked a historic milestone in a School that keeps its traditions and values, projecting them into a global and highly skilled world. Innovation, Knowledge and Technology are Técnico’s guiding principles, which promote excellence and fit the requirements of a knowledge-based society. Técnico is part of Universidade de Lisboa, the largest and the most competitive university in Portugal, and is recognised as a prestigious school at national and international level, namely in the fields of Architecture, Engineering, Science and Technology (ranked as the 15th Best engineering European Schools in the US News and Shanghai Rankings). It comprises Portugal’s most prestigious Laboratories and RD&I centres, with 20 research centers and associated laboratories.
Técnico offers a wide variety of courses to study, 9 undergraduate, 10 integrated Master’s, 29 Master’s programmes and 33 PhD programmes. Técnico is actively involved in several international mobility programmes in 75 countries worldwide . IST has significantly contributed to create cutting-edge science and technology, which is the main goal of the school.
To promote international visibility and attract foreign students, researchers and professors Técnico invests significantly in international partnerships, such as EIT-KIC InnoEnergy or SE3P- SINO-EU platform and in a select number of international networks, CLUSTER, MAGALHÃES, TIME and CESAER. In the last decade, Técnico has promoted and expanded the availability of double degrees (more than 50 currently available) and credit mobility master and doctoral Programmes, not only by establishing bi/multi-lateral agreements but also through international programmes such as ERASMUS MUNDUS, KIC Education and SMILE.
Técnico has been playing a very important role over the past century, promoting science, technology, research and innovation, which is essential for the economic and social development of Portugal.

Professor Luís Miguel Silveira

Professor Luís Miguel Silveira

Professor Luís Miguel Silveira received the Engineer’s (summa cum laude) and Master’s degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico in 1986 and 1989, respectively, and the M.S., E.E., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in 1990, 1991, and 1994, respectively. He is currently a Full Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering with Instituto Superior Técnico at Universidade de Lisboa, a Senior Researcher with Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC ID). He was Department Head from 2013-2014 and is currently Vice-President for International Affairs at Instituto Superior Técnico. His research interests include various aspects of computer-aided design of integrated circuits, with emphasis on interconnect modeling and simulation, parallel computer algorithms, and the theoretical and practical issues concerning numerical simulation methods for circuit design problems. He has received notable paper citations at various conferences, including ECTC, ICCAD, DAC, DATE, VLSI-SoC and SBCCI.

Professor Fátima Montemor

Professor Fátima Montemor

Professor Fátima Montemor is associated professor at the department of Chemical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico. She is co-author of more than 150 scientific papers published in International journals and more than 200 works presented in international and national congresses. Actually, her h index is 43 (01/2016). She is Editor of the Elsevier Journal “Applied Surface Science” and in January 2015, she took the position of President of the European Federation of Corrosion. She is the head of the Corrosion Science and Surface engineering group, leading a team of 30 people. She is very experienced in leading EU and National funded contracts. Actually, she is Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Instituto Superior Técnico and President of the board in the Co-location Iberia at KIC InnoEnergy.

Prof. Miguel Amaral

Prof. Miguel Amaral

Prof. Miguel Amaral holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Technical University of Lisbon and a MSc in Engineering Policy and Technology Management and a degree in Economics. Is an assistant professor at the Industrial Engineering Management department at Instituto Superior Técnico, currently teaching Engineering Economics, Project in Industrial Engineering and Management, Technology Based Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management. Also works as a Research Associate at the Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research, IN+/IST, at the Laboratory of Technology Policy and Management. His research interests and teaching focus mainly on Technological Change and Entrepreneurial Dynamics.

Rui Mendes

Rui Mendes

Rui Mendes has a degree in Sociology, branch of Labour; he took his MSc degree in Statistics and Management of Information. Currently, he coordinates Instituto Superior Técnico International Affairs Area. He is a former member of the General Council of the University of Lisbon and a representative of the same Institution at the Working Group of CRUP (Council of Deans of the Portuguese Universities) regarding the Professional integration of Graduates in Portugal. He was observer member of the Faculty Council, coordinator of Studies and Projects Unit and responsible of the Employability Observatory at Instituto Superior Técnico; he is and experienced trainer in Statistics, good practices and methodologies in survey construction, online surveys, Information systems, and Data analysis in SPSS. He was the European coordinator of a Longlife learning project funded by EC – FOLLOW and participate as researcher in many other European projects.

Ana Agante Lucas

Ana Agante Lucas

Ana Agante Lucas has a degree in Sociology, Postgraduate in Data Analysis for Social Sciences and Master in Statistics and Information Management. Employed in IST since 2005, has in last decade developed competences in several areas, began in the Studies and Planning Area, strongly dedicated to data analysis, moved to the Academic area working in IST Tutoring Programme where has participated in several national and international Projects, from which ATTRAC stands out, cooperated with international networks such as BEST, cooperation with PLOP countries and PLOP Higher Education Institutions and Private PLOP Companies and developed strategic cooperation’s with Portuguese Universities in the field of student retention and monitoring by developing a tool to early identify students with low academic outcomes. In 2015 moved to the International Affairs Office, as Coordination Advisor.
